Want to get your hands dirty? Volunteer at our urban farm! NFI offers volunteer opportunities for both individuals and groups at our urban farm site in NE DC. The work is general organic farm maintenance, including digging, weeding, sifting compost, planting and more.
Our workdays not only help us maintain our farm, but also provide community members an informal opportunity to learn about the basics of organic gardening. We host regular volunteer workdays on Wednesday evenings and Saturday mornings from March-November. For more information and regular updates, join our mailing list.
We can also host groups of up to 30 people with advance notice, and can tailor your volunteer experience to suit your group's needs. Email Liz Whitehurst, Volunteer Coordinator, at Neighborhoodfarm@gmail.com if you're coordinating a group.
Along with helping making our farm run, our volunteers help out with every aspect of our nonprofit's operation, from fundraising to web design to data entry to blogging. If you're interested in helping out with other tasks, email Neighborhoodfarm@gmail.com and let us know!
If you're self-motivated, flexible, and passionate about local food and organic gardening, please apply to intern with the Neighborhood Farm Initiative!

Get the best of both worlds with a range of local experiences!! Interns typically take on a specific project and meet with a member of our staff on a regular basis to ensure completion.
Compensation: You can earn school credit for your internship!
Time Commitment: A commitment of 5-10 hours per week at ABF's downtown office (M-F, times flexible) and a commitment of 5-10 hours per week at the NFI garden site are required. Flexible start/end dates.
Please submit your resume and a brief cover letter to NeighborhoodFarm@gmail.com.
